What is a Podiatrist (DPM)

Podiatry is the discipline of medicine that focuses on diagnosing, treating and preventing the disorders and diseases of the legs, ankles, and feet. Our podiatric physicians (podiatrists) are highly trained through years of study and clinical practice. After completing four years of podiatric medical school, they must complete one to three years of residency training. We are committed to continued education and staying informed on the latest research and developments in care of your legs, ankles, and feet.

Many systemic and degenerative diseases manifest themselves in the legs, ankles, and feet. These diseases include diabetes, gout, arthritis, poor circulation including peripheral arterial disease (PAD), peripheral vascular disease (PVD), among other diseases. Our podiatrists often work with your other health care professionals to provide you with appropriate and comprehensive care.

What we do

As podiatrists, we have received conventional medical training plus special training on the foot, ankle, and lower leg. We’ve been well trained in foot and ankle surgery through our hospital residencies, and we are experts in delivering care for complex foot disorders suffered by diabetic patients as well as common foot problems including bunions, hammertoes, heel spurs, ingrown toenails, plantar fasciitis (heel pain), and shin splints. We specialize in diabetic and Charcot foot disorders and have extensive knowledge and experience in flatfoot and arthritic foot reconstruction.

For problems outside our field, we will assist you in finding the appropriate specialist. As a patient, you will have your own treating physician. In the event that your foot doctor is not available, another one of our physicians will be glad to see you so there is no loss in the continuity of care.

Because continuing post-graduate education is essential in providing the best state-of-the-art care for our patients, we may be out for several weeks each year for the purpose of learning the latest treatments in podiatric medicine and surgical techniques. In the event of our absences, another Sun City Center foot doctor in our practice will be available for your emergency care or questions.

In addition to our highly trained physicians, our office is staffed with devoted personnel who provide the best of care during all phases of your treatment.
